I got a chance to spend some hands-on time with a fascinating fusion of media produced by Tristan Perich, the 1-Bit Symphony. This project from the composer is unlike anything I’ve seen before.

This fusion of music, electronics and traditional CD presentation blends several ideas together to create interesting electronic music on demand.
Slide the switch to “on” and hit the button, and the ATTiny85V microcontroller (third from the left) plays back the compositions which Perich hand-coded in assembly language into the chip’s programming. Hit the button and the microcontroller runs the program and performs the musical composition on demand.
What a neat concept.
